Preliminary Mapping of A Slump Landslide in Aybasti, Turkey

May 30, 2019

On May 16, 2019, a major slump landslide occurred at Aybasti, Turkey. The Geoinformatics Unit, RIKEN Center for Advanced Intelligence Project conducted preliminary mapping of the affected areas using earth observation data. The ALOS-2 PALSAR-2 data used in this analysis was acquired through the Sentinel Asia Program.

To detect the slump landslide, we carried out a change detection analysis using a pre-event SAR data acquired on March 6, 2019, and a post-event SAR data from May 29, 2019. The image below shows the detected landslide areas (yellow segments) in the southwest area of Aybasti.
